About Us
Chris and Marian Blake acquired La Petite Auberge in December 2004
after searching for the right property for over 9 months.
Chris started life as a Mechanical Services Engineer (designing
building services) but after 30 years working in the construction industry,
decided to leave the rat race as a company director to be a pool and maintenance
man.
He is a very keen fisherman having fished all over the world, mainly in
Europe, Australasia, The Indian Ocean and America as well as Ireland and
the UK. He fishes for all types of fish, preferring to catch and release,
not to kill. He has caught salmon in Scotland, trout in Tasmania and New
Zealand, bass, carp and trout in the USA and even bonefish in the Seychelles.
In England his favorite quarry were barbel and chub but he is just happy
to be out fishing even if sometimes he doesn't catch a fish all day!
If you are interested, Chris is happy to give casting lessons for fly fishing
or to take guests fishing. If Chris gets the time he is hoping to do some
woodwork (out of season), and maybe make some garden furniture.
Marian in her previous life was an Optometrist and ran
her own optical practice for 18 years.
Over the last 12 years, she has developed a passion for traditional embroidery
and quilting. For over 15 years she was involved as an adult leader in the
Guide movement, and has run a Brownie Pack, helped with Guides, set up a
Ranger unit and was even the District Commissioner for a year. If she gets
time in the winter, apart from the sewing, she wants to refine her upholstery
skills so that she can restore old chairs.
Marian and Chris do not have any children but have two
black Labradors. Harvey is the eldest. He is not
a typical Labrador as he doesn't like loud noises including gunshots and
fireworks, in fact he is even afraid of the toaster, dishwasher and especially
the hoover!. He sometimes also refuses to eat for a day if he gets frightened,
not a typical Labrador!
Beamish, so named as he was black and stout as a puppy
is a typical Labrador. He can eat for England or is it France, doesn't mind
loud noises and is always happy to see you.
Neither dog is noisy but Beamish does bark occasionally - sometimes at his
own reflection! When guests are at The Auberge, the dogs have their own
courtyard for the privacy of both dogs and guests. |
