La Grand Maison is our largest gite. It is designed for large family holidays or for a group of friends. The gite has a wealth of original features including beams and stone walls. It sleeps 14 in 6 bedrooms and has 5 bath or shower rooms. The furniture is a mixture of old and modern pieces.

La Grande Maison Lounge - Click picture to enlarge Entering through the front door, you come into a large hall with a feature stone wall. The doorways into the kitchen, ground floor bedroom and the separate dinning room are original and are made for people who were shorter than today. Anyone over 5ft 6ins should duck when going through theses doorways. (Chris who is over 6ft 5ins , says they are built for midgets, but there are smaller doors in the village!) The doors are from a more recent period in La Grande Maison's history when it was converted from the original farm buildings to a restaurant.

The farmhouse kitchen has been recently renovated (See pictures below). It is 5m by 5m and is large enough for people to congregate for drinks and nibbles whilst cooking. There is an American, side-by-side fridge freezer with ice making and water chilling facilities. There is a under counter top fridge near the kettle for milk and cold drinks. The stove is a range cooker with five gas burners with an electric oven / grill and extraction hood. There is a microwave/combination oven.

The numerous cupboards and drawers contain everything you need for cooking for large groups. The central island has a stainless steel top (another souvenir of the old restaurant) which is great for pastry making or for putting down hot pans. As well as a double sink for washing up and food prep., there is a second sink for hand washing. There is also a dishwasher A small dining table and chairs mean that snacks and children's meals can be served up in the kitchen if you want.

On the other side of the hall, there is the large dining room which has two dining room tables which sit 14. This is entered by the other low doorway so remember to duck if you are tall. Off the dining room is a cloakroom. with WC and wash basin. From the dining room there are internal French doors to the lounge. How can we describe it! BIG comes to mind.

Originally the main barn, it is 9m by 7m with a cathedral ceiling. There are exposed stone walls, beams, and a large mezzanine with dart board, books and board games. The original barn doors have been replaced with extra large patio doors which give amazing views over the plateau in front of the Auberge with it's vines and plum orchards.

For the musical amongst you, there is a piano and a harmonium organ to play. Seating includes plenty of Multiyork sofas and armchairs, which are so comfortable that you will be tempted to doze in them (We know, we have!).

Also in the lounge is a TV with video and DVD player. The TV system is fed from a satellite, giving all of the usual English channels via free view.
If the weather turns cold (which is unlikely in June, July, August and September) there is a fantastic Norwegian log burning stove!

The ground floor bedroom is a large double with its own ensuite Bathroom with separate bath, shower, bidet, w.c. and twin sink vanity unit. This bedroom has a door onto the private courtyard so that you can easily drink your first cuppa in the sun. It has wardrobes and chests of drawers for storage. The bed is a King size and there is more than enough room to fit a cot in this room. The ground floor also has a laundry room with 2 washing machines .

The first floor of La Grande Maison is reached from the hall via a wooden staircase. On this floor there are 5 bedrooms and 4 bath/shower rooms. Each room is individually designed and furnished and have a mixture of comfortable beds with old and modern furniture.
